MANILA, Philippines – Jerrold Mangliwan didn’t make it to the podium but set a personal best in the men’s 1,500-meter final of the Tokyo Paralympic Games on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium.
With 3: 58.24, Mangliwan finished sixth and in the process scored his personal in the event.
The Japanese Sato Tomoki not only took the gold medal, but also broke the Paralympic record with a time of 3: 29.13, beating the previous record of 3: 40.63 that Raymond Martin had set in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
Martin took silver in Tokyo with 3: 29.72 which is his personal best and a new record for the Americas.
Japanese Ueyonabaru Hirokazu took the bronze with a personal best time of 3: 44.17.
Austria’s Thomas Geierspichler finished fourth with a time of 3: 54.77 while Mexico’s Leonard De Jesus Perez Juarez was fifth with a time of 3: 54.82.
The American Isaiah Rigo is seventh with 3: 59.42.
