Travel Theme Tablescape

Summer is the perfect time to set a travel tablescape. Either because we get to go somewhere exciting, or because we don't!

You don't have to actually go anywhere to love the motifs: maps, globes, ships, travel posters, and photos of your dream destinations.

My table is set on a vintage looking map of the world. At first I thought I was taking poetic license, and that I would never ever serve off of a map like this. But then I remembered that I spent about five dollars for it new at a bookstore. That's in line with many decorative throw away table products. But it could also be laminated and used over and over!

A table like this has so much interesting conversation built right in, and always feels like a celebration.

The artistic drawings on this map go a long way toward being the decorative element in place of a centerpiece, but we have one anyway.

Each napkin, shell, and salad plate varies within the individual setting on the base of vintage Wedgewood creamware dinner plates. Vintage knives have a handsome monogram. Napkins are last summer's Potterybarn. All other items are vintage.

But I've added one more item of interest to the table in my vintage copy of The Spice Cookbook.

Besides the wonderful recipes from around the globe, the book itself is an exciting object with its map endpapers, delightful illustrations, and discussion of the history of spices and where they originate.

The book itself seems to be very well travelled with its tattered cover, and water stained binding, as though it had taken a seasoned journey across the ocean in the galley of a ship. (I found it this way.)

 I hope you're enjoying your
 Summer Journey
 wherever it takes you!
Bon Voyage, and Ciao! for now!

Jacqueline
